The Characters of Nanatsu no Taizai

Main characters

Meliodas
Voiced by: Yūki Kaji
The leader of the Seven Deadly Sins and the Sin of Wrath with the symbol of the Dragon. He is the main protagonist and owner of the Boar Hat bar. Despite having the appearance of a child, Meliodas is actually a lot older and very powerful. Meliodas carries around a broken sword hilt with a dragon appearance that he doesn't let go. It is later revealed that the hilt is a key fragment for the Demon clan. His most distinctive trait is his Dragon symbol carved at the top of his arm, just below his shoulders. Despite being called the sin of wrath, Meliodas acts like a trickster who is often seen fondling Elizabeth one way or another. However, underneath his facade he does hold a great amount of anger, only letting his out whenever his companions are endangered. In the past he once lost control of his rage and ended up wiping the kingdom of Danafor right off the map. He is named after the father of Tristan.
As the leader of the Seven Deadly Sins, Meliodas is immensely powerful and has demonstrated his superhuman strength through his ability to easily crush steel, with only his bare hands. He is also immensely agile, being able to easily avoid attacks of even Holy Knights. He was easily able to break free from Gilthunder's lightning bindings and can dodge even the swiftest of attacks. Meliodas had another ability called Full Counter (Zen Hangeki) which reflects attacks aimed at him back to their wielder, with far greater power. A drawback to this ability is that he can't initiate his own attacks and that he cannot reflect purely physical attacks. It is hinted that Meliodas is the predecessor of mixing demon blood and human. Whenever he is angered or in a dire situation a black symbol in the shape of an eye appears on his forehead and this is followed with a large burst of power from Meliodas. When he is surrounded by demonic energy he is able to manifest black energy that he can use in forms of travel and combat. In combat the demon energy makes him able to take on two New Generation Holy Knights with little effort, but at the same time in this form causes him to be unable to discern friend from foe.
Elizabeth Lyonesse
Voiced by: Sora Amamiya
The Third Princess of Lyonesse who, along with Meliodas, is searching for the Seven Deadly Sins in order to fight against the Holy Knights. The sixteen-year-old is a main protagonist and becomes a waitress at the Boar Hat bar when she begins traveling with Meliodas. Elizabeth isn't really the daughter of the king of Lyonesse but adopted by him and is really from a destroyed kingdom called Danafor. Elizabeth is shown to be a fragile and frail but is in fact, very brave and courageous. Her selfless attitude and bravery are demonstrated when she willingly tries to rescue a child from Friesia's attack. On the other hand, she is a fairly gullible person and is always tricked by Meliodas's jokes and doesn't seem to mind when Meliodas fondler her. It is hinted by Gowther that Elizabeth is in love with Meliodas when he looked at the two and stated that Elizabeth showed the "human signs" of someone being in love.
It was revealed that Elizabeth is one of the fragment of the Coffin of Eternal Darkness, which is used to revive the Demon Clan. It is revealed she possesses blood of the Goddess Clan, which manifests in her right eye and allows her to heal mortal wounds on those around her, which saved the life of Veronica, her father and allowed Meliodas recover enough strength to defeat Hendricksen.
Hawk
Voiced by: Misaki Kuno
A talking pig and Meliodas's companion. He is introduced as the cleaner of the Boar Hat bar who helps clean the disgusting food scraps. Hawk found Meliodas in a ditch and form a bar together but are often seen fighting each other. Hawk is shown to be easily annoyed person when Meliodas does perverted things to Elizabeth and telling lies to kid around.
Hawk's Mother

Hawk's mom who transports the Boar Hat bar. She is shown to live underground and transports the bar Boar Hat on her head.

Seven Deadly Sins

The Seven Deadly Sins (Nanatsu no Taizai) once said to be the strongest and cruelest order of knights in the kingdom formed by brutal criminals, they are currently branded as traitors of Britannia due to being framed for assassinating Zaratras, the Great Holy Knight. It is suspected that one of the members in the Seven Deadly Sins is a traitor who helped in the plot.
Diane
Voiced by: Aoi Yūki
Diane is the Sin of Envy with the symbol of the Serpent and is also a member of the Giants' Clan, being a colossal 30 feet tall. Her wanted poster depicts her rather accurately and she is seen in the present having a childlike face, brown pigtails, as well as wearing an orange leotard and studded gauntlets on her arms. Flashbacks have indicated that she is roughly 750 years old, despite her youthful appearance. After being found by Meliodas and Elizabeth hiding in the Forest of White Dreams, she joins them. Diane is helplessly in love with her captain and grows extremely jealous (and often destructive) when Meliodas shows affection toward other women such as Elizabeth and to regular sized girls due to her height. Later on the series Diane became great friends with Elizabeth. Her crimes have not yet been revealed.
Being a Giant, Diane is shown to be incredibly strong and her attacks have been repeatedly shown to affect landscapes on an enormous scale. She was able to punch the ground and use the ground to stop a horde of bugs from destroying a town. She has also shown to have great endurance as she was able to resist Gilthunder's lightning and even break free from it. As Matrona (normal human size), she possesses incredible physical strength and speed which she displayed during the fighting festival's preliminaries by defeating more than ten men quickly.
Since Diane is from the Giant clan, she has an ability called Creation (Sōzō (Kurieishon)) which has a deep connection with nature. This enables the wielder to manipulate the earth, such as bending iron like it was made of toffee and raising the ground up like towers to even turning the ground into sand. During the Byzel fighting festival she showed the ability to change her skin into iron increasing durability and damage. Her sacred weapon is Gideon, a giant's warhammer that weighs over a ton. With Gideon, Diane's earth manipulation is increased to the point where a single swing can lift an entire mountain
Ban
Voiced by: Tatsuhisa Suzuki
Ban is the Sin of Greed with the symbol of the Fox. His name is taken from King Ban, the father of Sir Lancelot. He is nearly seven feet tall, is extremely lean yet muscular, as well as wears red leather clothing. His wanted posted poster depicted him with long shoulder-length hair, but in the present he has opted for a short, spiky, as well as more wild hairstyle. He was initially imprisoned in the Baste Dungeon, before escaping when he discovered that Meliodas was still alive. Although still a good-natured person, he is depicted as the most immmoral of the Sins: he seems to have no qualms hurting or killing enemies and he was infamous throughout the kingdom as a bandit whose skill at theft was legendary. At age 23, several years before joining the Seven Deadly Sins, Ban tried to drink from the Fountain of Youth to become immortal but changed his mind when Elaine, the guardian of the fountain, told him the forest would die if he took the water. Over the course of a week, he bonded and fell in love with Elaine, before they were attacked by a demon and both mortally wounded. With Ban incapacitated, only Elaine was able to drink the fountain's magical waters, but in an act of sacrifice, she chose to kiss Ban and transfer the water's properties to him, granting him immortality at the costs of her own life and the destruction of the forest.
Ban's immortality allows him to heal from any injury, no matter how massive or fatal. He has been seen being impaled, bifurcated, and even vaporized, but has recovered from these injuries fully. His other ability is Snatch (Gōdatsu (Sunacchi)), which allows Ban to rob others of their possessions and even abilities. He is shown to be able to temporarily sap the strength and speed of his opponents, as well as grasp objects without physically touching them. After Ban escapes from Baste Dungeon, he joins up with the Sins to stop the Holy Knights. It is shown that Ban does not have any real loyalty to the kingdom, but he joined the Deadly Seven Sins because he stated that following Meliodas "wasn't boring". However it could be discerned that Ban respects Meliodas as he is the only person to ever beat him in a fight as well as the only person to have left a physical scar on Ban's immortal body.
King
Voiced by: Jun Fukuyama
King is the Sin of Sloth with the symbol of the Grizzly bear. He is the master of the Black Hound, Oslo. Although he was depicted in flashbacks and in wanted posters as an overweight and slovenly man, this was later revealed to be his alternate guise that he sometimes takes on. His true appearance, similar to that of Meliodas, is that of a young boy, despite him being roughly 1300 years old. King's real name is Fairy King Harlequin (Wa Seirei ō Hārekuin) and as the name suggests, he was the king of the fairies before he left his home for unknown reasons. King is also Elaine's brother and after learning about his sister's death, he vows to kill Ban due to the rumors of him being responsible. After learning that Ban was not at fault, King decides to follow the Sins to stop the Holy Knights.
King possesses the ability to levitate and is capable of flight. He demonstrates great skill in using it and is able to move quickly through the air. He can also utilize this ability to levitate objects and manipulate their trajectory without the need to make any direct contact. King also possesses a sacred treasure called Spirit Spear, Chastiefol (Rei Yari Shasutiforu), a spear crafted from a sacred tree only found in the Fairy Realm, it is much stronger than steel and possesses the mysterious qualities of the tree, which King's ability, Disaster (Saiyaku (Dizasutā)), draws out. It has been demonstrated that anyone slashed by the spear with Disaster is turned to stone. It has several different forms, including a pillow which can act as a shield, different forms of spears, a massive flower that can project a massive energy beam and even a large stuffed grizzly bear. However, despite his impressive magical abilities, King is by far the least physically able of his companions, being taken out with ease when forced to rely on his own body.
King was overwhelmingly voted the most popular character in a Weekly Shōnen Magazine character poll for the series, with close to four times as many votes as second place.[1]
Gowther
Voiced by: Yūhei Takagi
Gowther is the Sin of Lust with the symbol of the Goat. Initially depicted in flashbacks and wanted posters as a massive, armored and helmeted man second in size of the Sins only to Diane, his true appearance was revealed in chapter 54 as that of a normal-sized bespectacled young man with a slightly effeminate appearance. At the time he was discovered, he was living under the alias Armando and was residing in a poor village with young children as his friends. Gowther's special ability is known as Invasion, a mind-based ability which allows him to create illusions and memories to the victim powerful enough to beguile, manipulate, as well as immobilize them. He is also capable of reading and acquiring the thoughts, memories, as well as feelings of others. He is eerily and analytically stoic, being borderline emotionless, but is a skilled actor if need be given his guise as the timid Armando for several years. He is also quite socially inept, having blurted sensitive information about the Sins and Elizabeth to each other. As stated by himself several times, he is not human. He has been shown to be durable and resilient, as he was able to survive having his neck snapped, his entire chest pierced open, and even a decapitation. He is ultimately revealed to be a doll that was created by a great magician. His sacred treasure is Herritt, which takes the form of twin bows made of light, one held in each hand. He is named after the half-brother of Merlin. His crimes have not been revealed.
Merlin
Voiced by: Maaya Sakamoto
Merlin is the Sin of Gluttony with the symbol of the Boar. She is a slender, tall, attractive gray-haired woman, which was accurately depicted by her wanted poster. She is the greatest magician in all of Britannia and has for some time served as the mentor to Arthur Pendragon, the young king of Camelot. In the present, she and Arthur arrived at Lyonesse to have a meeting with its king at the same time the Sins did to rescue Elizabeth, although she was initially hidden under the guise of a cloak. She finally revealed herself at the end of chapter 83, wearing rather skimpy clothing. In both flashbacks and in the present, she has shown the ability to levitate, just like King. She also has the ability to teleport herself and/or others to remote locations and has such speed with the rate she can do so that she was able to effortlessly overwhelm her apprentice, Vivian, the current best magician of Lyonesse who also possesses the ability. She also has strong illusory magic, having created an entire faux army as a scare tactic. According to Gowther, she is possibly the traitor among the Seven Deadly Sins, having knocked Meliodas unconscious when they were branded as traitors. She is named after the legendary wizard Merlin. Her crimes have not been revealed. Her sacred treasure is a crystal ball named Aldan.
Escanor
A member of the Seven Deadly Sins with the Sin of Pride, with the symbol of the Lion, as mentioned by Gowther's friends who were roleplaying as the Sins. Although he has yet to make an appearance in the present, he has so far been depicted as an old, bearded man in his wanted poster. A flashback from 12 years ago depicts him quite differently from his wanted poster; he is seen as a young, timid, and overly polite man wearing clothes far too large for him. His sacred treasure is a massive, ornate axe with a blade in the shape of a crescent moon. (I'm sorry but I can't find another picture of Escanor except like above -,-)

Holy Knights

The Holy Knights are the most powerful knights in Britannia who protect the kingdom, being terrifying individuals who are each able to match an entire country's army in strength. Sometime before the beginning of the series, the Holy Knights orchestrated a coup d'état and captured the king of Lyonesse. The kingdom, now under the control of the Holy Knights, fell into a state of distress as citizens from towns and villages surrounding the kingdom were enslaved or forcefully recruited into joining a furtive war effort: the men trained as soldiers, while women and children forced to amass food for storage, as well as the elderly made to construct castle walls. Under the rule of the Holy Knights, death is the penalty for insubordination.
Zaratras
He was the Great Holy Knight of the kingdom before being assassinated for an unknown reason, with the Seven Deadly sins being framed for the murder. He was once the strongest of the Holy Knights before his death ten years prior to the beginning of the series. He is the father of the Holy Knight, Gilthunder.
Gilthunder

Gilthunder is a Holy Knight with dominion over magic that allows him to generate and manipulate lightning. He is the son of the murdered Great Holy Knight, Zaratras. When Gilthunder was younger, he looked up to the Seven Deadly Sins and wanted to be just like them, but after thinking that the Sin's murdered his father, Gilthunder wanted to have revenge and to surpass his father. Gilthunder was once a happy child, but after his father's death, he became an emotionless man who doesn't care about who he hurts.
It is revealed that he only pretended to work for Hendricksen because he threatened and imprisoned Princess Margaret and was being watched by an invisible chimera. After Margaret was rescued and the chimera was killed, he revealed to Hendricksen that he knew all along that he and Dreyfus killed his father, cutting off the arm of Hendricksen.
Guila
Voiced by: Mariya Ise
A Holy Knight who killed herself to access the Capital of the Dead. She is a very dedicated knight who is so faithful that she killed herself in order to chase Elizabeth and the Seven Deadly Sins who entered the Capital of the Dead. She is extremely confident in her abilities and strength. This shown through how fearless she is when she takes on both Diane and Meliodas together at once.
Geera possesses the power of Explosion which helps her to create powerful explosions. Geera was once a very weak apprentice Holy Knight until she drink demon blood which was offer her by the Great Holy Knight, Hendricksen which increase her power greatly. Geera has a little brother named Zeal who she loves greatly and dote on.
Hauser
Voiced by: Ryōhei Kimura
A Holy Knight with the rank of Platinum and dominion over magic that allows him to generate and manipulate wind, he's also a childhood friend of Gilthunder. Despite being usually hot blooded and self confident, he also believes in the honor of the Holy Knights, looking up to Dreyfus. He fights at the Byzel tournament and is defeated by Diane. After realizing the identity of the Seven Deadly Sins and witnessing Diane saving an innocent civilian, he begins wondering if they're really as bad as stories say. After witnessing many cruelties by his fellow Knights and sees Diane protecting Guila's brother, he sides with the Sins, protecting Diane from Dreyfus, despite being greatly outmatched.
Dreyfus
Voiced by: Katsuyuki Konishi
The current Great Holy Knight alongside Hendricksen, he's also Zaratras younger brother. He is a dignified and diligent person, very dedicated to his duties, being willing to even capture his king and enslave citizens to help in the military efforts, in order to prepare for the Holy War. It is revealed that he and Hendricksen are the ones who murdered Zaratras and blamed the Seven Deadly Sins, as he was jealous of his brother. Despite everything he has done, he loves his son deeply and believes Hendricksen's plan of reviving the Demon's clan is insane. When he is affected by Gowther's Nightmare Teller it is shown that he feels a lot of remorse for betraying his brother. He ends up admitting his crime and agrees on a temporary truce with the Sins in order to stop Hendricksen. Unfortunately, he's unable to defeat his former friend and rival, and is killed by Hendricksen's Acid Down skill, while his son Griamor watches helplessly.
He possessed the power Break, that is capable of shattering the opponent's techniques and has great destructive potential. He easily defeated Diane and remained unscathed by the combined attack of Hauser and Guila.
It is revealed that his body was being controlled by the Demon Fraudrin and used him and Hendricksen in order to fully revive the Demon Clan.
Hendricksen
Voiced by: Yūya Uchida
The other Great Holy Knight alongside Dreyfus, but he is less honorable and willing to lie and manipulate enemies and allies alike. Earlier in his life he was a good friend of Dreyfus, but after helping him murder Zaratras, his personality completely changed. He believes that without a war his order has no true purpose, so he's willing to revive the Demon clan in order to provoke the Holy War and give the Holy Knights an enemy to fight. He found the body of the Demon that was killed by Ban and also discovered the properties of Demon's Blood, using it to create the New Generation of Holy Knights.
He possesses the power Acid, that deteriorates the opponent's body upon being struck with his weapon infused with it, unless he is defeated or dispelled by strong magic. Hendricksen also has knowledge of forbidden techniques among Druids, such as Enslavement of the Dead, that can revive anyone from the dead to serve him, however this technique only works twice, as every time a person is revived, their abilities are weakened, as well as the second time will turn the dead into a mindless person. He used this technique on Helbram. And Blood Awaken, that can cause the demon blood of the New Generation Holy Knights to run out of control, mutating them into hybrid Demons.
After Gilthunder cuts off one of his arms, he injects himself with the demon blood, regenerating his arm and gaining powers similar to those of Meliodas in demon form. He kidnaps Elizabeth and kills Dreyfus, only to be cornered by the teamwork of Meliodas, Ban, King, Diane and Gowther. He then reveals to the Sins that he also found the body of a more powerful Gray demon, injecting himself with its blood, turning himself into a true demon. He's defeated once and for all by Meliodas technique of Revenge Counter. It is revealed he survived and the Demon Fraudrin using Dreyfus' body heals him, returning him to human form and watches helplessly as the Demon Clan he once wanted to release is freed.

Voiced by: Takahiro Sakurai
A Holy Knight who is Veronica's bodyguard and Dreyfus' son. Although he is ruthless, he shows absolute loyalty and care towards Veronica and cannot allow himself to displease her, having started to serve her at a young age and was willing to go against the Holy Knights to protect Veronica when Guila and Jericho threatened to take her away. When Veronica is fatally injured, she orders him to protect Elizabeth. Griamor later took Veronica's body to her favorite place called Pernes to bury her as requested by Elizabeth. He is reported dead by Hendricksen, which causes his father Dreyfus to grieve for several days. He returns to save Elizabeth from Hendricksen, fighting alongside his father. Helbram is just as cruel, ruthless and sadistic as the other Holy Knights, as he once tried to kill Diane just to make King upset. He used to be a kind and trusting fairy, enjoying the company of humans and was interested in their cultures and philosophies. However, after seeing humans tearing off the wings of his fairy friends and subsequently killing them, he was driven mad, developing an immense misanthropy, killing humans for five hundred years. King was forced to kill him, but because fairies' corpses don't rot, his body ended in the Black Market until it was bought and revived by Hendricksen. He is killed once more by King, telling him that the helmet he always carries was intended to be a gift for him. He is revived a second time by Hendricksen, this time as a mindless zombie with his skills diminished. He regains some consciousness and begs his friend to kill him. While at first the Fairy King hesitates in killing his friend a third time, Helbram yells at him they are no longer friends, which caused King to destroy his body. King picked up Helbram's old helmet and wondered if they were still friends in the end.
Other than his powers as a fairy, Helbram also could use a skill named Link, which allowed him to use the powers of others who allied themselves with him, being capable of combining attacks and transferring the damage to his allies.
